The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma approached the community of Ardmore in 2014 with the hope of creating a Food and Resource Center. Ardmore was chosen because of its ability to provide a more efficient distribution of food to communities in South Central Oklahoma. The Food and Resource Center of South Central Oklahoma (FRCSCO) is a client choice food pantry; that is to say the food pantry looks very much like any typical grocery store, including the fresh produce, refrigerated and freezer sections. We know that individual food choices are important to our clients and therefore, they are important to us. We do a few other things differently at FRCSCO. We are open extended hours to afford everyone the opportunity to receive services regardless of hectic schedules. There is an emphasis placed on nutritious foods as well as nutritional education to increase community awareness of hunger. While we are focused on food, we know that hunger can sometimes be one of many obstacles a family or individual is facing. For that reason, we are able to connect our clients to other agencies in the community for assistance like: housing, counseling, job training, medical treatment, and more. We believe in our mission of providing food security and promoting self sufficiency, and the only way we are able to fulfill our mission is through team work. Volunteers are the lifeblood of FRCSCO. Because of volunteers we are able to use our community resources to feed more of our hungry neighbors.
What began in 2014 as vision and a conversation is the community collaboration we have today. The only story missing is yours. Won't you join us in the fight against hunger?
